Temple at Sambor Prei Kuk


This journeys brings you back to the root’s of the Khmer empire, which begins in the mid 6th century with the defeat of the Funan empire. Explore the historical and architectural development, the influence of religions and the adoption of their own believes. Encounter the Khmers of today and enjoy the beauty of this green country.


Day 1: PHNOM PENH
Morning
Arrival in Phnom Penh. Meet with your tour guide who will escort you to your hotel. 
Afternoon
Visit the National Museum, Silver Pagoda, Royal Palace & Wat Phnom.
Note: The National Museum is closed on Monday and some public holidays.

Day 2: PHNOM PENH – TAKEO – PHNOM PENH
Morning / Afternoon: Breakfast
Excursion to the last religious center of the Funan Kingdom. The temple Phnom Da is located in the province of Takeo. Speed boat ride to the temple. Along the river you can see duck farms, rice fields and fishing villages. Visit a unique Indian-style sandstone temple, the Asram Maharosei. There is no other temple in Cambodia constructed in this style.

Day 3: PHNOM PENH – KOMPONG THOM

Morning / Afternoon
: Breakfast
Drive along the river banks of the Tonle Sap to Kompong Thom. Enjoy the surroundings with rice paths and palm trees. Visit the ancient Capital of Cambodia – Udong and the mountain Phnom Santuk before arriving in Kompong Thom. Overnight in Kompong Thom.

Day 4: KOMPONG THOM – SIEM REAP
Morning: Breakfast. 
Visit one of the famous ancient capitals of the Chenla dynasty. Sambor Prei Kuk, the site of the ancient city called Isanapura, with large complexes of religious monuments. The temples are located in a beautiful setting, surrounded by lush forest.

Afternoon
Drive to Siem Reap, the ancient capital of Angkor. On the way you will see the daily live of the Khmers and passing an old bridge dating back to the 12th century. Arrival in Siem Reap and check-in at your hotel.

Day 5: SIEM REAP (ANGKOR)
Morning: Breakfast. 
Our tours are designed to visit the temples in the historical order. This gives you a good view of the architectural development. Begin by visiting some of the earliest temples in the area.
Hariharalaya (last Kingdom before Angkor 9th century)

  • Preah Koh (879 n.Chr.): King Indravarman I. (877-889).

  • Bakhong (881 n. Chr.): King Indravarman I. (877-889).

  • Lolei (893 n. Chr.): King Yasovarman I. (889-910).

Afternoon:
Second Angkor capital (early classical period, 10 century)

  • Prasat Kravan (921 n.Chr. / Koh Ker period): King Hashavarman I (910-923).

  • Mebon (952): King Rajendravarman II (944-968).

  • Pre Rup (961): King, Rajendravarman II (944-968).

  • Takeo (begining th century): King Jayavarmans V. (968-1001).

First Angkor capital (King Yasovarman, 889-900)

  • Phnom Bakheng (end 9.century): King Yasovaraman I (889-900).
    Enjoy the sunset with a great view over the surrounding landscape. 

Day 6: SIEM REAP (ANGKOR)
Here you can insert a extensions. Explore the place where Cambodia was founded by the King Jayavarman II on the top of Phnom Kulen LC1PK-A

Morning: Breakfast
After the breakfast visit one of the jewels in the Angkor area:

  • Banteay Srei (967 AD)

Third Angkor capital (11th century)

  • Baphuon (middle 11 th century): King Udayadityavarman I (1050-1066)

  • Phimeanakas (early. 11 th century): King Suryavarman I (1001-1050)

  • Northern & Southern Khleang (begining 11 th century)

Kingdom of Jayavarman VII (1181-1219)

  • Elephant Terrace (end of 12 th century.)

  • Terrace of Leper King (end 12 th century).

Angkor Wat

Afternoon:
Kingdom of Suryavarman II (1113-1150)

  • Angkor Wat, first half of 12th century. Sunset at Angkor Wat!

Day 7: SIEM REAP – PREAK TUOL – SIEM REAP
Morning / Afternoon: Breakfast. 
Visit floating fishing village of Chong Kneas. Then day excursion to Preak Tuol National Park, which's va
st aquatic riches contains Southeast Asia's only colony of spot-billed pelicans. It has the largest known flocks of oriental darter, painted stork and black-headed ibis in Southeast Asia. Twenty percent of the world's greater adjutant’ storks live in Preak Tuol. It is the only known breeding area in the region for the milky stork. It's no wonder that this area is a veritable bird watcher's paradise.

Day 8: SIEM REAP (ANGKOR)
Morning: Breakfast. 
Kingdom of Jayavarman VII (1181-1219)

  • Southern Gate of Angkor Thom (begining of 12th century)

  • Bayon (late 12th century)

  • Ta Prohm (early 13th century).. 

Afternoon:

  • Preah Khan (early 13th century)

  • Neak Pean (end of 12th century)

  • Ta Som (end of 12th century)

  • Banteay Kdei (end of 12th century)

  • Sras Srang (end of 12th century). Sunset at Sras Srang.

Day 9: SIEM REAP – PHNOM PENH / BANGKOK
Morning: Breakfast. 
After breakfast, transfer to airport and flight to Phnom Penh. Connecting flight to…/ or you fly by Bangkok Airways to Bangkok.

Included: hotel accommodation in twin room with breakfast; all excursions and transfers by private vehicle with English, French or German speaking local guide; entrance tickets on site.
